Our Children’s and Youth Ministries are structured to nourish the spiritual growth of children of all ages within a safe and loving environment. Through our ministries, we share the stories of our ancestors as found in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and Christian Scriptures (New Testament) of the Bible, and we encourage our children to think about these stories, to question them, and to come to form their own understandings of God.

For our infant and toddlers, ages 0-2, we offer nursery care during our Sunday worship services and special worship services throughout the year. Children may be brought back to the nursery at any time before or during the worship service. Children must be signed in and signed out by the same person, and a cell phone number must be provided in case of emergency. Nursery care is available until 12:30 pm on Sundays.
We offer a preschool-age Sunday School class during the regular adult worship service on Sundays at 10 am. As with our older Children’s Sunday School, children are led out of the sanctuary with their teachers after the “Time with the Children.” Preschoolers take part in the “opening ceremony,” including an opening prayer and offering, followed by a special lesson and activity (songs, play, crafts) geared toward preschoolers. Our Preschoolers Sunday School class uses The Family Story Bible for our stories, and lesson plans are written by one of our Plymouth volunteers to make sure that they are consistent with and tie into the Four Voices of Plymouth United Church. On the first Sunday of every month, preschoolers are brought back into the sanctuary to take part in communion with our congregation. On other Sundays, preschoolers stay with their teachers for a time of supervised play, and parents or guardians may pick up preschoolers in the classroom area after the service.

“Tween Time” meetings are planned for each Sunday before church in the Youth Room, starting at 9 am. Tween Time is a relationship-building ministry. These events feature games and opportunities to connect with other tweens and with our “youth champions” at Plymouth. In addition to playing games and talking about what’s going on in each other’s lives, we also dive into Bible study, while still keeping the mood a bit light. We also host other events both inside and outside the church, like church lock-ins, ice cream socials, and the Marshmallow Olympics.

Tweens and adults in our ministry are encouraged to express a diversity of views without judgment. Our focus is on leading lives that express the love of God in each of us.

A Note About Safety: Your children’s safety is very important to us. All volunteers who work with children and youth at Plymouth must have been active participants in our church for at least six months and must submit to a criminal background check before working with our children. If you have any questions about the safety of your children while at Plymouth, please feel free to contact our Pastor.
